Workout Rest Timer
The rest timer you do not have to remember to start, because forgetting to start it is the only way a rest timer ever fails.
It starts itself
Complete a set and the timer begins. There is no separate button to find, which matters because the thirty seconds you spend looking for a start button are thirty seconds of rest you did not measure.
It keeps running when you leave the app and it shows on your lock screen, so you can put the phone down between sets and still know when to go again.
Per-exercise rest intervals
Rest is set per exercise inside a routine, not globally. Heavy compound work and a set of lateral raises do not want the same interval, and the app does not pretend they do.
Every exercise in the built-in library ships with a sensible default rest time already attached, so a new routine is usable before you have configured anything.
- Open a routine on the Train tab.
- Tap any exercise in it.
- Set the Rest Interval for that exercise — 90s is a common starting point for compound lifts.
It’s free, and it’s in the app
439 exercises, 40+ ready-made routines, and unlimited workout logging — no account required to start.
Frequently asked questions
Does the timer run with the app closed?
Yes. It runs in the background and appears on your lock screen, so you do not have to keep the app open to keep the timer honest.
Can I set different rest times per exercise?
Yes, and that is the intended way to use it. Rest Interval is configured per exercise inside a routine.
Is the rest timer a Pro feature?
No. The rest timer is free, like workout logging and the exercise library.
