Import Your Workout History

Years of logged training is the reason people stay on a tracker they have stopped liking. It should not be the reason.

Hevy and Strong, detected automatically

Both apps export a CSV from their own settings. Gym Journal reads the header row, works out which app produced it, and parses accordingly — there is no format to pick and nothing to map by hand.

Workout history and body-measurement exports are both recognised, in either app’s format.

Importing

  1. Export your data as CSV from your current app’s settings.
  2. In Gym Journal, open Settings → Import Data.
  3. Choose the file exactly as the other app produced it.

The one thing that breaks it

Opening the CSV in a spreadsheet and saving it again shifts the columns, and the import then fails or lands in the wrong fields. Use the original file untouched — this is the cause of nearly every failed import.

It’s free, and it’s in the app

439 exercises, 40+ ready-made routines, and unlimited workout logging — no account required to start.

Frequently asked questions

Which apps can I import from?

Hevy and Strong. Both hand you a CSV from their own settings, and Gym Journal reads the header to work out which app it came from — there is nothing to choose.

Does it import body measurements too?

Yes. Workout history and measurement exports are both recognised, in either app’s format.

My import failed — what went wrong?

Usually the file was opened and re-saved in a spreadsheet first, which shifts the columns. Use the original export exactly as the other app produced it.
